The College held a workshop today, Tuesday, 16/12/2025, through its Human Rights Unit, entitled "Rights of Foundlings (Persons of Unknown Lineage)." It was presented by Prof. Dr. Adel Nasser Hussein.

Through this workshop, it was demonstrated that a foundling (person of unknown lineage) has the following rights:

1. A foundling has the right to enjoy all the rights enjoyed by others, including the right to life, which is ensured by Islamic Sharia mandating that anyone who finds them must take them in.
2. A foundling has the right to have their lineage attributed to whoever claims it, provided that the claimant is compatible in terms of generation and status.
3. A foundling is given a first name and a surname so they can integrate into society.
4. A foundling is considered to have Iraqi nationality.
5. A foundling is considered a Muslim unless proven otherwise.
6. A foundling has the right to be attached to a family that requests their attachment, and this family is obligated to provide for them financially.
7. A foundling attached to a family is entitled to a mandatory bequest from that family's estate, equivalent to the share of the smallest heir among them, provided it does not exceed one-third of the estate, and this bequest cannot be revoked.
