With God’s blessing, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit held, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the scientific symposium entitled (The phenomenon of the spread of drugs and psychotropic substances and ways to prevent them), in which Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Jassim Mahmoud, head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division, Colonel Atheer Nasser Madi, head of the Narcotics Department in the south of the governorate, researcher Omar Ismail Huwaidi from the Community Police Division, and the symposium director, were present. Ashwaq Talib Kassar, head of the counseling unit at our college, shed light on several aspects, including the reasons for the spread of this phenomenon, its types, its psychological and social dimensions, and ways to prevent it. As much as the last years have brought progress and prosperity to mankind thanks to scientific and technical progress, this has also contributed to the transfer and development of some dangerous habits and behaviors, namely the abuse of drugs and psychotropic substances and addiction to them, whose dire effects do not stop at the person who abuses and is addicted, but rather extends to include the family and society, praying to God.
